I think people need to understand that a lot of athletes all over NCAA have these luxury items. This isn't some major Red Flag like the media is trying to
make it out to be.
How do athletes afford all of this? Since the university pays for their food, living expenses, books and I think still gives them a stipend, athletes have a lot of excess cash floating around. Athletes get a flat rate for an apartment or hosting official visit and can save the excess. Also, many parents are willing to spend a little more and dip into savings because they know that in a year or two, they will be in way better financial condition.
In today's NCAA environment, it is unusual to find an athlete without nice clothing, shoes, blackberry or sidekick.
