Is there really hope that this program is headed in the right direction? We've gone from tournamnet probables to an absolute study in moppishness. Is
mediocrity really what we strive for here? We made a nice tournamnet run a few years back & I assumed things would only improve. Since then, we have won
f*ck all. I'm sure I'll be blasted for this post, but a nice run against UCLA & perpetual use of the "injury" excuse onlt gets you so
far.

It's too bad that Nadia went down in the game against Arizona, but that doesn't make up for some bs losses earlier this year: Santa Barbara, Michigan,
Washington, Oregon State, Arizona come to mind. We had a comfortable lead at SB in the season opener, and let that one get away. We never competed at
Michigan, which isn't even going to make the tournament. We were pathetic at Washington, just one week after we beat Stanford. Oregon State, a team which
lost to lowly Washington State just a week before, never should have had a chance against us. Arizona ate us alive at home, even though we had so many chances
to win that game. The Wildcats lost at home to Washington State a week prior. Add to those both losses to Cal, we should have taken one of those.I t's
those close calls which separate the NCAA teams from the NIT (not invited) teams. Of these six or seven games, just give us 3 back and that would put us at
the magic number 20. Even though we ended with losses to ASU and the Bruins, who were probably due to beat us, we still could of sneaked in to the NCAAs as an
11 or 12 and maybe made it interesting. Oh well, another spring and summer wondering what if?

Very mixed emotions at this time.......... | #2
|
.........for a USC women's team that has folded too early two years in a row. The season's end was handed to us this year with a favorable schedule and
we finish like Men's Oregon State with no hope of winning. We need to be peaking at this time. Is it attitude, conditioning, leadership, coaching????? I
certainly hope it is none of these because as Trojans these shouldn't be an issue. I know that injuries shouldn't be an excuse but even Camille, Brynn,
Morghan, Aarika, Kari and Heather are not 100% and with huge leadership and energy gone with Gilbraith, Parker, Gemelos, etc. it is hard to sustain what it
takes through the end. I can only say that I hate excuses but with Gemelos and Corral and the Gilbraiths and a healthy Heather, Camille, Nadia, Aarika,
Morghan, and Brynn we will have the offensive punch that should be equaled only be the Stanford's, Connecticuts and the Tenessee's, otherwise, I agree,
the deficiencies and accountabilities are much deeper. I've left out a number of names that are critical to our success that TrojanTim can fill in. Anyway,
ladies, hold your head up, regroup, you did some very good things this year in spite of another year of epidemic injuries. We are proud of those
accomplishments, but with a fair degree of health you are capable of final four results and should not tolerate any other goal. We are behind you 100% in those
efforts. Fight on!!!!!!!!!!

Mark Trakh and the Wynns need to be let go immediately!! | #3
|
This team has digressed during Trakh's tenure. Poor decision making, poor passing, poor shooting, crappy defense. There is no discipline on this team.
Bring in a coach who is going to make these young ladies COMPETE - injuries or not! I have it on very good terms that Trakh leaves most of the coaching to the
Wynns - pathetic! Either buck up and coach these girls or get the hell out of Troy. Stop trying to be best friends with the players and instill a killer
instinct to play hard every game. Bottom line, it won't happen with Mark Trakh. Let's bring in a top-notch quality coach and shell out the bucks if
we have to. FIGHT ON!!

The most positive thing ever is happening on this board......... | #5
|
.......when people are passionate about Women's Basketball at USC. I would blog a couple of years ago and it was three or four of us max. Now we have 10-20
passionate fans who message regularly and they are spirited about this program and these great ladies. I revel in that and it is just the tip of the iceberg of
all of those that support this team. We all express emotionally because of our love for USC and particularly women's sports (although I go to all of the
men's games too). A comment, be it positive or negative, is a good thing. Heck, who in their right mind would praise the end of this season. It
sucked, we talk about it, kick in some walls, berate the coashes and then go back to work and get this thing right. Fight on!!!!!!!

Coaching Staff | #6 | ||
|
I hate to use injuries as an excuse, but they are a reality in this situation.
Part of the sloppy play is due to playing people that wouldn't be playing if the better players weren't hurt. These players would be getting minimal time, but instead are forced into playing major important minutes. Unfortuantely, it's not one or two players hurt but even more. And having some of the better remaining players nicked up doesn't help either. I've been to practices from previous teams (men and women) and watched the coaches go over very specific things and practice them over and over and over. Come game time, you would think it is all new to the players. The coaches know what they are doing. And they recruit like crazy. We are getting ladies here we haven't gotten since Lisa and Tina. BUT THEY HAVE YET TO PLAY A GAME!!!! At least give the staff a chance to have the TEAM they recruited play a full year before the vultures come out. I don't accept mediocrity, but I understand the reality of not having your horses to run the race. If everyone plays next year, and there is no improvement, that's another story. BTW, having been through this with the men's team a few years ago - the players, coaches and RECRUITS all read this board. If you feel the need to criticize, make it constructive. |

Plenty of supporters do exist . . . | #7
|
for our Women of Troy Basketball program, many of them supportive of Coach Trakh, the staff and what they're trying to accomplish on all fronts, on and off
the court, including recruiting and academics. Unfortunately, a somewhat vocal minority come out of the woodwork every now and then to express some negative
opinions. No problem with that since this is a free country and all, and this board represents a forum for free expression . . . however, I will say that
I do have considerably more respect for those who have been posting on a regular basis throughout the ups and downs (although I may not always agree with the
comments), than I have for those who never said anything until now, especially about some of the good things that happened this season (i.e., our first half
showing against the U.S. National Team, our upset of #2 Stanford, our home record at the Galen Center until the final two games, our win streak against UCLA,
our 104 points in one game, our superb defense in a few games, etc.)
This kind of reminds me of a boys high school play-off game that I recently attended. I got the impression that some of the visiting fans had not been to many of their games this year, if at all. In the first half, when the home team was winning with a significantly taller, quicker and more talented line-up, these fans had virtually already given up on their team. They were making comments like "We should just go ahead and play so and so . . . anyway, what difference does it make now ? C'mon, it's the last game, and look, you don't think that we have a chance to win this do you ? Look how tall and quick they are ? " But, in the second half, the visiting team surprisingly came back from a significant deficit largely because the home team was having a bad shooting stretch and could not capitalize on their height against the zone. By the end of the game, these same fans were loud and boisterous, and all of a sudden became so-called "experts", criticizing the coach because they thought he should be playing "man to man" defense instead of a zone, not realizing that the only reason they were back in the game was because of the zone, which prevented the home team from doing lay-up drills on them, since they could probably beat each of the visitors in "one on one" situations . . . After losing by two points in a game that they actually had a chance to win with a good open look for a "three" which just glanced off the rim, they were demanding that their coach be "fired" . . . because he didn't play "man to man" and because he didn't call a time-out before the last wide open shot. Of course, it would've been a blow-out with a "man to man", and the last shot wouldn't have been "open" against the much taller home team if their defense would've been able to set up against an in-bounds play . . . By the way, we have it on good authority that Coach Pete Carroll leaves most of the coaching to his offensive and defensive coordinators, and you know what else ? He lets his recruiting coordinators recruit, etc. . . . But, let's just keep that hush- hush . . . because we wouldn't want them to fire good 'ol Pete just for having a significantly more than competent coaching staff . . . Chances are, our football team wouldn't have finished 11-2 if we didn't get QB John David Booty back, or if we didn't get our starting line-backing corps back about the time of the Notre Dame game, or if we weren't able to finally put together our offensive line by the end of the season . . . In the meantime, as a #2 (pre-season #1) team, we managed to lose to mediocre Stanford (who would've been in last place in the Pac-10 . . .country ? planet ? next to ND, but even ND beat them . . . without the win over 'SC) at home in a monumental upset of the college football season, and with a team that started off the season with the deepest talent at all positions in recent history. It's a lot harder to get an upset in football than basketball because a lot more people are involved, offensive and defensive units, field position, etc. But, I remember Stanford basically moving the ball up and down the field at will against us that night, in the coliseum (?) . . . I would say that this trumps our disappointing losses to Washington, Oregon State, Arizona etc. in WBB, as an "unranked' team . . . I also can't forget our devastating football loss to UCLA in another upset at the Rose Bowl the year before, again knocking us out of the title game, even with our much superior talent as the #2 team in the nation . . . I realize that disappointing close mid-season losses probably cost us an invitation to the Dance, but realistically, without Nadia Parker at this point in the season (leading scorer and rebounder) we might have trouble in the tournament, anyway. On the other hand, if we didn't lose Nadia (knee) near the end, or Kari LaPlante (stress fracture) just as she was coming around, Aarika Hughes (stress fracture), etc. we might've finished stronger. The future looks bright for our WOT with the incoming recruits, the returning red-shirt All-Americans (Jacki and Stefanie), and experienced team-leaders Camille and Nadia, as well as 'up and coming' Heather Oliver (all Pac-10) coming back. The appropriate players were deservingly recognized by the Pac-10 this year, and I would venture to guess that some of the others will need to step up their game and consistency to compete for minutes with the All-Americans and top returnees that we will have next season. I also trust that our athletic administration will use proper good judgement, common sense, and objectivity in evaluating what is best for our WOT, and will not resort to doing anything rash that could possibly damage the program in the long term . . . Fight On !

USC Set the Standard with our 1983-84 Championships | #8
|
What we're seeing right now is kinda sad. I know the coaches are probably doing their best BUT all we've really seen the last couple of years are
"good" recruiting classes who haven't produced, nothing but injuries, injuries, injuries, and a team that really folds at the end of the season.
I'm not sure what the answer is but USC certainly is not up to the standards set by our past. Maybe we'll do something in the next year or two but I
just don't have that warm fuzzy feeling. Sad, sad, sad. I remember way back in the Linda Sharp days, I thought she'd be just like Pat Summit and win
championship after championship at SC. Things sorta went down hill every since she left. All we have now is memories of the golden years of WOT basketball.

I too remember the 1983 - 1984 championships . . . | #9
|
. . . being part of that era while attending 'SC, including the initial recruiting of Cheryl Miller. Unlike before, we promised that The Spirit of Troy
would provide a band at all the women's basketball games if Cheryl came to 'SC . . . and we stuck to that deal . . . Chances are that those two
years wouldn't have been so "golden" if we had to go through those seasons without Cheryl Miller and/or the McGee twins and/or Cynthia Cooper or
Rhonda Windham due to injuries . . . And, you're absolutely right . . . those were "two" golden years . . .
However, people seem to unfairly be holding the current coaching staff somehow responsible for what went on the last twenty or so years "before" they got here . . . 1985 - 2004 . . . I don't recall our WOT winning any national championships during that time, even with Lisa Leslie and Tina Thompson healthy and playing (?) . . . people seem to be under the misconception that we've won national titles every year until Coach Trakh and his staff got here . . . On the contrary, and we're actually starting to pick up and stock talent somewhat similar to the Miller's and McGee's, and once we get them on the court I think that fans will be pleased (. . . or they'll probably criticize why we're only winning games by 20, and not winning them by 40 or 50 pts . . . ) Fight On ! |

we are blaming the last 20 years on Trakh adn comapny. The bottom line is save a coupel of years with Lisa, Tina and maybe Ebony, we just haven't been what
many thought we were going to be during the Linda Sharp years. Trakh is jut the latest example of us not being where we should be. It's been what 3 years
and all we've seen is 3 years of all teh stars being hurt and no solid results except for gettign to the Tournament one or twice. Hey, Kathy Olivier is
available. She won a coupel of titles while at SC
