I had a good friend play college football at Wisconsin and he told me that basically all they did was save up their stipends and blow it all on clothes/jewelry/etc. It's basically free money to them since they have the training table for food...housing and books are covered. And lets be honest here, some don't even buy the required books for their classes as they can just borrow it from their tutor, etc. When you figure it out, that's alot of free money for these guys to use on whatever they want and the university doesn't think anything of it.

Bottom line, it's a totally screwed up system that these guys are playing under. You're basically damned if you do...and damed if you don't.
