Does he have a place on the team in terms of playing time w. Nikola, Washington, and incoming players and so forth? Has he been practicing while he was away?

If taj leaves he will no question he has a place. Even if taj stays there is never enough height to go around.

No, Cromwell would not play, even if Taj leaves. We have Alex, Leonard, Nickola, and that freshman guy who is 6'8

Way back in his freshman year, Cromwell was on his way to becoming a very nice player. Then he got hurt and he went down from there. The kid can run and jump.
When he played against Stanford a couple of years ago, he was very effective against the Lopez kids (Feb 2007) Evidently there have been some other kind of
issues, but he has talent and potential. If he is ready to play and if he has taken the right steps--I know---lots of IFS---he could be the best big man at USC
if Taj is gone. I am not saying he will ever play for SC again. I am saying that he has an upside that we have already seen. MJD
