Bent over by the Bruins. |

Is there really hope that this program is headed in the right direction? We've gone from tournamnet probables to an absolute study in moppishness. Is
mediocrity really what we strive for here? We made a nice tournamnet run a few years back & I assumed things would only improve. Since then, we have won
f*ck all. I'm sure I'll be blasted for this post, but a nice run against UCLA & perpetual use of the "injury" excuse onlt gets you so
far.

Kathy Olivier's overall coaching record at UCLA was 232 - 208 over 15 years, which equates to 15 - 14 per season on average, with WNBA players Noelle
Quinn, Lisa Willis, Nikki Blue, etc., and Lindsey Pluimer healthy and playing. Incidentally, MT has won 8 of the last 10 meetings in head-to-head competition
with KO's Bruins, including a 21 pt blow-out of the Bruins while still coaching at Pepperdine with somewhat lesser talent (?) than the Pac-10 . . .
Mark Trakh's record is 73 - 49 over four years, with two second round tournament appearances, which equates to 18 - 12 per season on average, skewed by the last two years with his best players red-shirting, and many other players playing hurt . . . otherwise, we probably would've averaged upwards of 20 or more wins each season . . . our close losses this year might've swung to the win column with one or two more healthy players (i.e., 4 losses by 1 to 3 pts . . . plus two overtime losses . . . with four of these games on the road ) . . . The most games that Ebony Hoffman won in a season was 16: 03/04 = 15 - 13 02/03 = 14 - 17 01/02 = 16 - 14 00/01 = 13 - 15 Tina Thompson did the best as a frosh when she played together with senior Lisa Leslie and Jody Wynn, under Coach Cheryl Miller: 96/97 = 20 - 9 (Coach Fred Williams) 95/96 = 13 - 14 (8th place in Pac-10) 94/95 = 18 - 10 (Coach Cheryl Miller, and player Jody Wynn) 93/94 = 26 - 4 (Coach Cheryl Miller, and players Lisa Leslie and Jody Wynn) Lisa Leslie did pretty well, but do you think our WOT would've achieved these records if Lisa Leslie were hurt and couldn't play ? Just look at the L.A. Sparks without her . . . 93/94 = 26 - 4 (Coach Cheryl Miller, and players Tina Thompson and Jody Wynn) 92/93 = 22 - 7 (Coach Marianne Stanley, and player Jody Wynn, formerly Jody Anton) 91/92 = 23 - 8 90/91 = 18 - 12 (Coach Marianne Stanley) Getting to the tournament twice in the last four years is only a start . . . the best is yet to come . . . Coach Trakh was a perennial 20-game winner coming in, and I expect him to win a minimum of 25 each season, starting this coming Fall . . . Fight On !

I certainly think Coach Trakh has shown himself to be a first rate recruiter and a good representative of the University.
Something, however, needs to change. If the injuries resolve themselves, a big if, we have a lot of talent coming into the program next year. We need to take advantage of it. I have no big problem with Mark coming back next year. I still believe, however, there needs to be a change with the rest of the coaching staff. The husband / wife combo is not working. Now everyone involved is a really good person but I'd never hire a couple as a team in my business for the simple fact that friction sometimes yields creative positives and real friction is unlikely between a husband and wife (on the job, at least). I could be wrong. If, however, the athletic department really wants to invest in this program and decides to part ways with Coach how about investing in Paul Westphal? It's the one move that combined with winning could make attendance take off at Galen. I too was at S.C. in the early and mid '80's. Boy that was fun! |

I don't have any strong feelings . . . | #13

one way or the other on the 'husband - wife' coaching combo aspect . . . but I will say this . . . each of the coaches were competent and
well-qualified in their own right before they met and subsequently married. Jody Wynn is more than qualified to be a head coach, herself, at this point, and
as a matter of fact was initially offered the Pepperdine position when Coach Trakh was hired by USC. She declined to return to help coach at her alma mater,
to the relief of MT who was then able to keep his staff intact. I do think that they have always been excellent recruiters and feel that there are advantages
to having both men and women on a coaching staff (not necessarily related . . . ) In general, I wouldn't think that a 'husband - wife'
coaching combo would be much different than any other staff with relatives (i.e., father - son, brothers, etc. ), or even cases where a player's parent
is on the coaching staff, etc. There are pro's and con's to these different scenarios . . .

Good one on K.O. BUT she did win a national championship while at SC. Maybe we will get better but for now, I still remember VIVIDLY traveling with the team
to places like Virginia and Kentucky and seeing all the crowds and having so much fun being the Top Dog in Women's BBall for a few years. There was nothing
like it. It sure would be great to have another run like that one.

People really want Olivier? | #15

When she was part of the staff here at SC, she was not even the lead assistant.
She left to be an assistant at ucla and then worked her way up. Her results at ucla are average at best - and all the things people seem to be complaining about now - sloppy play, falling apart at the end of the season - the bruins were just as bad. And let's remember, she was essentially fired at ucla. Again, we need to give this staff another shot with all the recruits they brought in. |

Critics of trakh are #$%^& morons | #16

My god, I never saw a team have so many injuries as USC has the last two years. It was miraculous that Trakh had them in contention for an NCAA birth prior to
Parker going down. As to the Santa Barbara loss, USC did not even have Camille Lenoir, she plays and we win that game by 10. She didn't. If either Gemelos
or Gilbreath were healthy, we win 22-23 games and you guys would wax poetic about Trakh. Believe, if you replace him, we will take a step back.
