I like this move. They are a good group, it shows stability and should indicate that we will be much along the lines of a TF type team, I think just a bit tougher.

We will have two defensive gurus in O'Neill and Johnson; one set on man-to-man straight in your face defense and the other a master of surprise and
defensive confusion. Will there be a melding of these strategies? Will O'Neill allow Johnson to continue to put together game day strategy? I doubt it.
Will we have a viable offensive scheme or will our game be predicated almost totally on defense? And of course with the loss of the recruiting class, along with Taj, DeRozan, and Hackett, we will be low on offensive fire power anyway. So I am expecting low scoring in your face types of games this coming year. I'm hoping that Dwight will be consistent, Vucevic will light it up both inside and out, and Washington and Stephenson will clean up on garbage so that we can compete with USC East aka Arizona (proud possesor of all of our recruits). Recruiting for this year and next and next is pretty much dead until there is some close to this cancer of an NCAA investigation. That has everything on hold and our coaching staff, no matter what their charms, pretty much powerless. |

goes on without being resolved, it will be like probation for USC as recruiting will be on hold.

I am glad that the staff is staying for continuity. I only hope they get along with KO.
However, this makes Floyd's departure even more strange. If SC thought there was any wrong doing, I presume we would have wanted to clean house. On the other hand, if we did nothing wrong, Floyd should still be here. Hopefully, some day we will learn the truth about what happened. However, at the moment our administration just continues to confuse. |

Katz really likes SC, everything he says about us is usually positive - sort of the anti Doyel.

Floyd didn't want to deal with the situation and deservedly so. He is financially set so he could walk away.
Assistants don't make the same type of money and at this stage it is almost impossible to find a job. It will be interesting to see if the staff stays intact next year. |

This seems like something either handed down by people above O'Neill or that it was just too late in the off-season to find replacements. Either way, you
want O'Neill to get his guys (don't want an Arizona situation). I also think some change is good and you want fresh assistants because there can be
conflict and resentment with the older ones with how things were handled with Floyd. Just doesn't seem like a healthy situation to keep the assistants.

If the program was in the tank, yeah clean house. But if, as is in this article and from KO himself, the cupboard is not bear, you don't think the NCAA
investigation is going give you the death penalty, and you've taken over a winning program that is in the style that you teach and thrive on; why change?
As has been reported, he likes the staff that he has. He's worked with some before. TF took his time fine tuning that staff and I'm sure that
KO's decision to keep them together was greatly influenced by the advice that he got from TF, who he is very good friends with.
Although I agree with most that I would have held off in giving guys their release until this coach had a chance to meet with their families. Change is not always good. Stability may be more important to the potential kids coming in as well as those who remain. |
