Steve Lavin would have been a worse choice, but Harrick would have been a much better hire - better with players, a great motivator and just as good with the
xs and os.
In hindsight, one year of OJ Mayo cost USC a generation of Jamie Dixon. What a shame. This is much worse than the Rick Majerus fiasco. |

I think O'Neill is a really poor choice | #4 | ||

to go from names like Jamie Dixon and Lon Kruger and then to end up with Kevin O'Neill is a disaster, imo. But I think the reality is, with sanctions
looming, our program was a hard sell. I was told by someone wired into the program and college basketball in general that on Monday/Tuesday Lon Kruger was
thinking long and hard about taking it, but in the end money and the possible sanctions were the roadblocks that prevented it from happening. And that's
too bad, because in my mind Kruger, if not a home run, was a stand up triple who would have given the program legitimacy, leadership and a foundation no matter
what comes down from the NCAA.
And to tell you how messed up this search was, my guy tells me that Mike Garrett never actually wanted Jamie Dixon because he lacked "NBA experience". Mind boggling. |
