How tall is Smith? Do you see him more as undersized PF with range then a SF?

I don't see him as an undersized PF. He is a SF, he has bulked up quite a bit over the last couple of years and lost a little of his lift. So they might
need to change his body a bit.
He is 6-6 I believe. |

I've never seen him in person, but from the video, he looks like a very physical player.....which is good. Diving after loose balls, playing aggressive D,
and running into players. At first, I was thinking a shorter Lorenzo Mata, but his shooting stroke looks better than Mata's. If he has the basketball
saavy that others say, then he won't be one of those "1 foul per minute" guys, but a contributor. Every team needs a guy like him to set picks,
make open jump shots from the pick and roll, and dive after loose balls. I've read interviews of his where it is apparent that he truly loves the game.
Welcome Evan. I'll be rooting for you. FIGHT ON |

That reverse layup was not reassuring. |

He was supposed to be in the Dunk Contest but he tweaked his back. He isn't bouncy tho.

lbdiii wrote: When you have to compare a SF to a C that is never good. How many times do you think USC is going to run a pick and Roll with the SF? Every team needs a player that brings hustle, but you can't have a roster full of them. USC already has two players in Washington and Cunningham that bring a marginal skill set but hustle. If Evan Smith sees playing time, USC has taken a huge step back. |

TrojanMind,
I'll give you Cunningham in that he's an effort guy who'll come in and play hard / do the little things. I hope he can come back as close to 100% as possible. However, L Washington is much more than marginal. He's one of the teams best rebounders and inside scorers. He lead the team in steals per minute played; he was nearly as good as Taj in rebounds per minute played, and he shot .500 from the field. Mark my words, LW will start more than 13 games next season as he did last season. As far as Evan is concerned, based on his love of the game and expressed love of USC, I hope he stays for 4 years and becomes a contributor. To say that he doesn't deserve major minutes his freshman year is #1) Unfair and #2) is brimming with Captain Obvious-itis. FIGHT ON |

For old timers like SCLarry, NETT, Marty, MJD who would understand the comparison. A high effort effective guy without a lot of explosive athleticism.

another Budinger. Budinger can shoot the lights out and plays well in all aspects of the game. Just my opinion.

No he can't. Not even close to the skill level and athleticism of Chase.

He was ranked #7 in the 2006 class behind 5 NBA lottery picks, Ellington and Lawson and could have easily gone straight to the NBA and been a borderline lottery pick. Playing until his JR has actually hurt his draft stock as his lack of lateral quickness and a killer instincts got exposed. He is still an explosive vertical athlete. A closer comparison for Smith would be Jordan Cameron, though Cameron has more lift, was more productive at the high-school level and ACTUALLY got recruited by other Division-I programs. |

He is okay, played better than I expected last week. I don't see him as a contributor next year.
