I like reading that he is an excellent passer but is Evan a good enough ball handler to play "point forward", given our thin depth at point guard?

"THIS KID MAY WELL START AS FRESHMEN."
Can't believe you said that. I was there as well. He played well, but no way is better than Noel Johnson, Marcus Johnson and Derrick Williams, to put that hype on him is completely unfair. And no he can't play point forward. Noel Johnson might be able to though in stretches. He is tough and going to be a great positive teammate. I will have video of the game up early this week.

Steve4USC wrote:Nett has been very balanced over the years. Beginning with Calvin Banks back in '88 I recall his mostly upbeat posts. If one doesn't believe it, check with MJD or others who have been regulars on this board since its inception. Even though I sometimes may not agree, his takes have never been based upon 'wishware' or pessimism, as we have often seen from others. Actually, I wish Nett would post more....and as far as Ms Nett is concerned...Bake On! (If one doesn't know about her cookies, then they are indeed a newbie to the program). TroJon would kill for them during SayNo's. Lars |

Evan had 15 points, you can check the box score in story. Sounds like Evan is going to be an interesting recruit.

Nett is a great USC basketball fan and is extremely knowledgable about the game. I look forward to his posts and I find his opinions to be very fair, either
way. Looking forward to seeing Smith play.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but you do realize that he wasn't playing against the best competition in that All-Star game? There was only one other PAC10
level player in that game and from the sounds of it, Smith didn't exactly dominate either.
To make matters worse, not only is USC taking a flyer on Smith as a player, but he comes with academic concerns.

Agree. Lots of things you have to look at when scouting players. The setting they are playing in, who they are playing against are big factors when you try and
sum everything up. Also you have to see players several times in different settings to get a true picture. That being said I got a pretty good feel for things
both good and bad Evan brings to the table, hopefully I will have some time to put them on paper, also want to write about the Pump Tournament since I saw Cal
Supreme (Polee, Johnson, Franklin) play 5 times over 3 days this weekend. But first I have about 6 hours of film I need to edit.

Mrs. Nett says the cookies are in the oven and will be delivered at Evan Smith's first summer league game. AGAIN, this kid can play. I will not mention
names, but this kid has far more skills than a number of SC recruits I have seen over the past 15 years. Why he is not more highly rated is the question of
the year!..Evan is far more advanced passing and shooting than Derrick Williams. ONLY TIME WILL TELL, BUT THIS KID IS A GAMER!!!!
