Forde makes the statement that SC should have known about Mayo because of his expensive clothing and flat-panel TV. So my question is how does a Michael Beasley afford an iphone, sidekick, black berry and LG phone all on different services. I think people need to understand that a lot of athletes all over NCAA have these luxury items. This isn't some major Red Flag like the media is trying to make it out to be.

How do athletes afford all of this? Since the university pays for their food, living expenses, books and I think still gives them a stipend, athletes have a lot of excess cash floating around. Even if the NCAA determines that USC did nothing wrong while Mayo was recruited and enrolled, could the basketball program be in jeopardy of forfeiting games simply because Mayo's amateur status was compromised before attending the univeristy?

This is the second high profile USC student to be accused of extra benefits. My biggest problem is why the university should take so much blame for these problems. I understand what people could say about student-athletes taking money and how the school needs to be able to control this but at the end of the day Tim Floyd isn't buying OJ a tv or giving him money. Players like OJ are presented with so many opportunities of breaking rules by accpeting things that this is such a small...

A while back Yahoo had visions of sugar plum Pulitzer's dancing around their heads. Watched the ESPN piece this morning. Personally, I think we're toast. The receipts, the testimony of the guy who sang like a canary, etc. This isn't Lloyd Lake scribbling dollar amounts on a ketchup-stained cocktail napkin and admitting it as Exhibit A. saw him at the usc games. I was not really happy to see that guy around and now the espn report looks like serious stuff. I always wondered how these jocks got these expensive tv's in their rooms, etc. And the tv's are just the tip of the iceberg. If Davon doesn't finish this semester as an elibible student, it will be a tough summer. As a usc honk even I would wonder about the "institutional control" issue.

*Didn't have the NBA on his mind all year long, thought it would've been selfish for him to do that while at USC.
